Is Prayer Alone Enough – Part 2

Last week we looked at 7 points as to how to be assured of our prayers being answered.
Today let us look at the first point in more detail.

Have faith
Jesus says, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there ‘and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20
Jesus also says, “Whatever things you ask when you pray believe that you receive them and you will have them.”- Mark 11:24 & Matthew 21:22

How do we get Faith?

1. “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” – Romans 10:17. God has told us how to get faith and so we need to spend much time reading the Bible, listen to Christian messages, reading Christian books, attending Christian meetings and saturating ourselves with the Word of God.

2. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” – Hebrews 11:1. It means that we are to be confident of what we hope for and be convinced of it going to happen even though we do not see it in the natural. Faith gives you the assurance that what you have prayed for you will receive or it will take place.

3. “For with the heart man believeth” – Romans 10:10. “…Whoever shall not doubt in his heart” – Mark 11:23. Faith is to believe with your heart and that is what will cause you to receive from God. To have real faith in God’s Word means to know that if the Word of God says so then it is so. The promise is surely mine. I have it even though I cannot see it.

The Bible says of Abraham “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations …. Being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith giving glory to God. And being fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able also to perform.” –Romans 4: 18-21
Like Abraham we should have a strong faith in God’s promises and not to look at the natural circumstances around us but to reach out to the spiritual realm. The Bible tells us to “Walk by faith not by sight” – 2 Corinthians 5:7. We are to trust more fully in the Lord Jesus Christ, “Who is the author and finisher of your faith and our High Priest” – Hebrews 3:1 and 12:2

Jesus asks two blind men who came to Him to be healed, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”- Matthew 9 28. When they said “Yes Lord” he said to them, “According to your faith be it unto you” – Matthew 9:29 and their eyes were opened. Even Jesus can’t do anything for you unless you believe. “Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” – Hebrews 11:6

Lastly Remember:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5
“Fear not only believe.”- Mark 5:36. Jesus tells this to Jairus when they told him that his daughter was dead.
Keep saying to yourself “I believe what the Bible says, not what I see and hear. My faith is based on what God says.” And God will surely come through for you.
