Christian Commitment
God is totally committed to us
God has promised His total commitment to us, from the time we are born to the time we die. Nothing can break His commitment to us.
Isaiah 46:4 “I will be your God throughout your lifetime – until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”
This is a tremendous and reassuring promise. God has been with us since we were born, and He has a perfect plan for our life, He has a destiny for each one of us. God has no favourites, we are all His favourites.
God knows our needs before we even ask. That does not mean we do not need to pray for solutions to our needs and problems, indeed, it is by doing that, that God releases to us what we need. How comforting to know that God is always watching over us and our family. When we are awake, He is there, when we are sleeping, He is there watching over us, and when we are working or relaxing, He is with us. He knows what is coming around the corner.
In fact, God’s love and commitment to us is so strong, that His Son Jesus gave His own life, especially making provision for us.
Titus 2:14 “He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing what is right.”
Being Committed to God
Exodus 24:3 “The people answered in unison, We will do everything the LORD has told us to do”
John 17:1 – 4 “Jesus looked upon to heaven and said Father, I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to do”.
Likewise God wants and expects US to commit ourselves to doing everything he has told us to do. He has told us to pray, to tithe, to serve others, to use our spiritual giftings, to show acts of kindness, to heal the sick, visit those in prison, etc. so those are things we must do.
Joshua 24:14 “So honour the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped. Serve the Lord alone.”
Too many people today idolise football. God wants us to pray, to attend meetings where we can, and to serve and help each other and others. We should not be addicted to football or sport on television, or to soaps on television to the extent that we are not functioning for God. In some cases, we may need to give something up altogether (addiction to computer games or internet….?)
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.”
A little pleasure, all things is moderation, but if someone in your family is complaining that you spend too much time on a certain activity, perhaps God is using them to convince you!
Proverbs 3:9 “Honour the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land produces.”
If we are truly committed to God, we will gladly give from our material assets. God also likes us to practise hospitality. Perhaps you need to invite someone around for tea, and to fellowship with them.
Amos 5:24 “I want to see a mighty flood of justice, a river of righteous living that will never run dry.”
God wants us to do good to other people, for that is one way of showing our commitment to God.
Romans 6:13 “Give yourselves completely to God since you have been given new life. And use your whole body as a tool to do what is right for the glory of God.”
Wholehearted commitment involves giving Him everything, even our bodies, to use as He wishes.
Promise From God
Psalm 145 – 9 “The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.”
