Just For Who He Is

The Believer And His God
Dearly Beloved, as we walk with God, I believe it is important to stop and consider what the Spirit of God is saying for the hour, allowing Him to shine His light into all areas of our lives. I believe the Lord will have us examine our relationship with Him.
Every father delights in providing for his children. However it is an even greater joy to the father if his child loves him for who he is. It struck me recently that time after time God has sought for men and women who will look beyond their immediate needs, not be moved by waves of hardship and stay firm. He found such a man in Job who declared "Yea, [even if] he slay me, yet will I serve Him", and in the three Hebrew children who told king Nebuchadnezzar that even if their God would not save them, they would not bow to the king’s idols. Abraham also obeyed God to sacrifice his only son. Every man or woman who would walk with God will have "all that is in his heart" tested. When we are praying for something and it does not seem that the answers are coming, our natural reaction is to get discouraged and disappointed. We say to God "We have followed You as You commanded but you have not answered". The Lord is calling us to a new level in our walk with Him. We will look at this topic under two headings:
- The Believer and his God
- The Example of Elijah
The Believer And His God
Rev 4:11 says “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for You have created all things, and for Your pleasure they are and were created”. We were, first and foremost, created for God’s pleasure. When we start our walk with God as young converts, I have observed that for a period, the Lord will allow most prayers to be speedily answered and the young believer often has a testimony to tell of God’s provision etc. Getting older in the faith, he has to learn lessons of patience by waiting on God. The lessons continue all through our earthly walk. The Lord’s desire is for us to move to the ‘meat, leaving the milk’. Every one of us will pass through circumstances where the only thing we have to hold onto will be God.
The Example Of Elijah
The Example Of Elijah
We will look at the circumstances of Elijah when the brook Cherith dried up in the time of famine. Consider the dilemma of this man of God; he had prophesied that there would be no rain for three and half years. This word had come to pass and God had said, "Go to the brook Cherith, there you will find water and ravens to bring you food". The brook now dries up, he has no water to drink. I was deeply touched to see that this man did not panic. He knew that he was God’s responsibility and simply waited for God’s next instructions which came shortly after. Only a man who has:
- Moved beyond his immediate needs to know the nature of his God (believing that God would never leave him in spite of his contrary physical circumstances) could maintain this level of calmness.
- He has also known through his interaction with God and his consequent growth in Christ, that God’s answers come at God’s right time.
- There is the greater calling of being an instrument in God’s hands. In other words, whether my prayers are being answered yet or not, I still love God and will continue to be His instrument.
God is still calling His children to come up higher. These are the generations of those who will shine as the brightness of the firmaments, who turn many to righteousness and love not their lives unto death. Their reward will be eternal, their relationship with their God will be their most prized possession and none will be able to take it from them.
In conclusion brothers and sisters, I know some of us are passing through difficulties and hardships but let us remember and take strength and encourage-ment in the words of Paul, Romans 8:35,37: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [Shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" And the answer "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Amen.
