Show Your Faith

Jesus said, “O woman great is your faith. Let it be to you as you desire” Matthew 15:28

Please read Matthew 15:21-28. Here we read the account of a Canaanite woman putting her faith in Jesus and receiving healing for her daughter.

Are you and I not the children of the living God and are we not the spiritual seed of Abraham and do we not receive the blessings of Abraham?

Let’s look deeper into why this woman received the blessing

  • She cries out to Jesus, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon possessed.” She was not an Israelite but she knew that Jesus was doing miracles and healings among the Jews. So like a Jew she calls out –‘Son of David’. When Jesus does not answer her and the disciples urged Him to send her away, He tells them that He was sent only for the Israelites.
  • Hearing what He said she ‘Worshipped Him’ and pleaded ‘Lord help me’
  • Jesus still says that He ‘can’t take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs’
  • She is not offended by being called a dog and persists that ‘even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from the master’s table.’ Meaning that surely He can show some mercy and compassion even to a Gentile
  • Jesus is amazed at her faith and persistence and perceives her desperate need, so He is moved with compassion and lets her receive her miracle even though it was not yet time for the Gentiles to receive His blessings
  • The result was her daughter was healed from that very hour

What can hinder our miracle/blessing?

We can spend much time in prayer and fasting, but if we give in to the following it won’t do us any good.

  • Sin – ‘If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.’ – Psalm 66:18
  • Unbelief – ‘But let him ask in faith, with no doubting for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord’ – James 1: 6-7
  • Unforgiveness – ‘And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.’ – Mark 11:25-26
  • Prayerlessness – Prayerlessness is a sin and unless you pray you will not receive. ‘Ask and it will be given to you.’- Matthew 7:7 ‘For everyone who asks receives.’- Matthew 7:8
  • Disobedience – God does demand our obedience to Him. Samuel tells King Saul ‘Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord?’ – 1 Samuel 15:22. ‘For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft’- 1 Samuel 15:23

If we love God then He expects us to obey and keep all His commandments, ‘For this is the love of God that we keep His commandments’ – 1 John 5:3  Jesus says, ‘If you love Me keep My commandments.’ – John 14:15

 Remember:

If God was willing to extend His grace to a Gentile, how much more you, His beloved child! So come boldly to His throne of grace and receive from Him.  “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things”? (Romans 8:32)

 God Bless you
